The Hill County Commissioners approved and signed a resolution for revision of jail standards at an April 6 meeting.
"All we did was accept the revised jail standards," said Commissioner Pat Conway. "The original standards were developed in the early '90s and accepting these standards is voluntary and not mandatory. We adapted them. The resolution is to adopt the revised standards."
The amendment will supersede the previous resolution No. 94-1581 as filed by the Hill County Clerk and Recorder on Dec. 16, 1994, and adopting the Montana Detention Facility standards, third edition, revised January 2000, as prepared by the Montana Sheriff's and Peace Officers' Association (MSPOA) and The Montana Association of Counties (MACo).
The MSPOA have and MACo have updated and edited the Montana detention facility standards for holding facilities. The Hill County Commission and Sheriff of Hill County have analyzed those standards and have determined that the detention facility owned and operated by Hill County should strive to comply with those standards.
The Hill County Commission recognizes that those standards are not, in their entirety, presently being compiled by the facility owned and operated by by Hill County and intends that the standards be used as a statement of professional goals to be achieved, to promote recognition of needed improvements both to the facility and operation of the county facility.
