Havre's LaShae Michels

finishes the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 50.8. She crosses the finish line behind CMR's Courtney Carroll, who won the race.

On the last hurdle, CMR's Sarah Dorr trips and Havre's Karla McCormick, hot on her tail, pushes for the third-place finish with a time of 51.5, finishing nearly three meters ahead of Dorr.

However, official timing mistakes at Great Falls lent to Dorr placing third and McCormick not placing.

After the meet ended, Havre track and field coaches caught the error. The error gave Havre an extra point, taking a point from CMR, and it also gave the Havre Blue Ponies girls' track team a 73-72 win at the CMR duals on Tuesday.

"Dorr tripped on the last hurdle and Karla passed her," head coach John Ita said.

Those extra points might have helped push the Blue Ponies to the win, but it was a team effort throughout the day.

"Our girls are scoring everywhere," Ita said. "They look really well-balanced."

Junior Alyssa Matter won her third-straight 100-meter dash with a time of 13.2. She placed second in the 200 with a time of 28.0.

Sophomore Jayla McPherson won the discus with a toss of 97-5, and she placed first in the shot put at 32-6.

Maureen Porter won the pole vault for Havre with a jump of 7-6.

Michels won the long and triple jump with a leaps of 16 1/2 and 33-10 1/4, respectively.

Freshman Brooke Schwan won the high jump, clearing 4-10. Amy Ranes, a sophomore, placed second with a jump of 4-10.

The Havre girls also captured second-place finishes in the 1,600 and 3,200 (Jennie Peterson), 800 (Erin Lynch), 300 hurdles (Michels), javelin (Erin Patera), shot put (Jeanna McPherson), and triple jump (Patera).

"To say that any one person looked good, you just can't say that," Ita said. "We get points out of everyone."

CMR defeated Havre 93-52 on the boys' side.

Brian DeRosa placed first in the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.4 to lead the Blue Ponies.

Freshman Steve Heberly placed first in the 100 with a time of 11.2. Second and third place went to Brent Finneman and Adam Landgraf.

Jesse Suek won the discus with a toss of 148-2. Teammate Chris Klobofski placed second with a throw of 128-8.

Finneman placed first in the 200 with a time of 23.1. Heberly was second and Landgraf third in the race.

"It was a sprint show," Ita said.

The Havre boys won both the 400- and 1,600-meter relay.

The girls won the 400-meter relay with a time of 52.7.

The Blue Ponies will next compete at the Havre Invitational on Saturday at the middle school, beginning at 10 a.m.
