Warning Watch out for procedural rules when not bowling

By Marlene Pizzini

"Say as little as possible at league meetings. Everyone will think you know everything but want to keep it to yourself!"

Jackpot Gary will be going to Butte for state this weekend so "Alien" night has been rescheduled for the 22nd. Wear a shirt with an alien on it and bowl for half price. Jackpot bowling is held Saturday nights at 8:00 p.m. and when it resumes the 22nd the pots will be strike $104, pill $79, and YABA $322.

Does your league have the rule - postponed games must be made up within one week or some other time limit?

If you do, be very careful with this provision known as a procedural rule. In other words, a rule that is intended to encourage teams, rather than require them to bowl a postponed match within that time frame. There are procedures for requesting a postponement, which are usually never followed in this town. Your league board of directors are to decide if a team or teams will be allowed to postpone unless there are emergencies. In other words, it is not up to you to say "We can't bowl, we'll make it up", this is a privilege your board is suppose to decide.

And, as far as that one week business, be very careful, ABC, WIBC, YABA, do not encourage forfeits or look favorably on them when not for very good reasons.

On April 19th at 7:00 p.m. the Wednesday Men's City league will hold its meeting to set up next year's season and hand out league money. I presume the Association will hold its meeting first, check with Shawn Mariani.

There will be a meeting Thursday the 27th at 7:00 p.m. for a spring league. Spring hours have been set; Wednesday and Friday 5 to 10 with Rock & Bowl still being held; Saturdays 2 to 10; Sundays and Tuesdays closed. Mondays will remain open for the present but check at the lanes for times. There is a strong possibility I may have messed these days and times up but should have it straight next week.

The bowling season is nearing an end and so am I! Thursday Guys & Gals finished the 5th; Womens City last night; and Wednesday City tonight with a position round. The Mixers will be done tomorrow night and the Keglers Sunday night. Thursday Housewives will finally finish the 20th and Straightaway either the 24th or May 1st with a rolloff. To put it bluntly, my rose are showing more life than I am when it comes to bowling. The weather is way too nice to be penned up inside any longer so next week will be the last you will hear from me.

Happy birthday Vicki Clark! Julie Hamblock gains one the 14th; Barbie Young the 15th; Joni Schubert the 16th; Janice Erickson and Christie Johnson the 17th; and JoAnne Pepin the 18th.
