MSU-Northern football fans got their first glimpse into the future with the Maroon and White scrimmage Thursday at Blue Pony Stadium.
Brandon Kerkes started at quarterback for the Lights, and came out blazing, completing 16-of-34 passes for 233 yards.
A former wide receiver, Kerkes was converted to quarterback just three practices ago and has Lights head coach Walt Currie thrilled with his performance.
"It was great to see him (Kerkes) go out and preform the way he did. It was impressive," Currie said. "I feel this team is stronger, faster, and better than last year's team at this point in the spring," Currie said, giving the credit to the commitment they have made in the weight room.
The Lights came out with an impressive drive to start the game, going 80 yards. It was capped off with Travis Crawford running in a 6-yard play for the touchdown. Tanner Smith added the extra point.
The defense was also impressive on the afternoon, stopping the offense 10 times and causing three turnovers, one coming off of a monster hit layed on Travis Crawford by Bryan Kott sending the ball sailing ten yards downfield where the defense recovered.
The Lights will report back for the fall on Aug. 13, with their first game coming at home against Western Montana College on Sept. 2.
