BOX ELDER John Charles Nolan Favel, 22, St. George, Utah, died April 25, 2000 from injuries he sustained while rescuing a companion in a rafting accident.
A wake will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Box Elder on Friday, with rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's with Father Pete Guthneck officiating. Interment will follow at the Rocky Boy Cemetery.
Favel was born Feb. 25, 1977 in Havre to Lorelei Favel and Harold Monteau. He attended elementary and high school in Box Elder, graduating valedictorian of his class in 1996. He attended college at MSU-Northern and Salish Kootenai College before dedicating himself to his music.
Favel moved to St. George, Utah and performed in the Christian rock band called Salt. He enjoyed composing and playing his music with his friends and fellow Salt members Derrick Holt, Jeremy Todd and Justin Allison. Favel also believed in his Indian ways and was as at home in a sweat lodge with relatives as he was in giving his Christian testimony.
He was an organ donor.
Favel was preceded in death by his grandfather, Percy Favel, and uncle, Nolan Charles Favel.
Survivors include his mother, Lorelei Favel Marinkovich of Box Elder; father, Harold Monteau of Kalispell; grandmother and adoptive mother Romona Favel of Box Elder; brother, Quanah Monteau of Newtown, N.D.; sisters, Summer and Autumn Monteau of Newtown, N.D., and Mindy Sager of Butte; aunt, Debbie Rae Nass of Seattle, Wash.; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends at Rocky Boy.
