The Box Elder Bears' high school track team will attend the District 9C track and field meet on Thursday at the Havre Middle School.
They will put on the track a solid group of athletes to give the competition a run for their money.
The team consists of Josephine Windy Boy, Tami Infante, Art Whitford, Patty Morning, and Ashlee Rainingbird.
Windy Boy is strong in the distance races for the Bears.
At the Chester Invitational, Windy Boy notched a third-place finish in the 3,200 meters with a time of 14:59.8.
She placed sixth in the 1,600 meters with a time of 7:07.67.
At the Big Sandy Invitational, among a field of teams from the district, Windy Boy placed second in the 1,600 with a time of 6:53.59. She also placed third in the long jump at the meet with a jump of 12-8.
Infante is probably the strongest point-getter on the team.
At the Chester meet, among a field of athletic Chester girls, Infante won the 200 meters with a time of 29.59.
At the Rocky Boy Invitational, held at the Havre Middle School track, Infante placed second in the long jump, leaping 15-7 1/2.
She also placed sixth in the 200 at the meet, which included a deep girls' Big Sandy team. She ran the race in 29.01.
The presence of Whitford, Morning, and Rainingbird might help break up the team score of some of the deeper teams at the district meet.
Whitford's strengths are in the 1,600, 3,200, 400 meters, and high jump.
Morning will compete in the shot put and discus, while Rainingbird will compete in the distance races (1,600 and 3,200 meters).
The boys' discus, girls' javelin, girls' high jump, and boys' pole vault events are slated to begin at 10 a.m.
The girls' 3,200 meters will kick off the running events at 10:30 a.m.
