Stream fishing in Montana starts Saturday, May 20 and this part of Montana provides some of the best trout fishing anywhere in Montana.
Take Beaver Creek, for instance, south of Havre. Above Rotary Hill is a great brook trout fishery all the way south to the Rocky Boy Reservation line. North of Rotary Hill can be found large rainbow and brown trout almost all summer long.
Beaver Creek Park is a fee area so fishermen will need, along with their Montana fishing license, a Beaver Creek Park use permit.
East of Beaver Creek and easily accessed by the Sucker Creek Road are Little Box Elder and Clear Creeks. These creeks provide good to great fishing for brook trout along with rainbow.
It should be noted that most all of these creeks run through private land. Permission should be received before wetting your line. Seldom will area ranchers refuse a fisherman permission to fish, however, not asking can get a fisherman kicked out of the "best" fishing hole ever.
East of Clear Creek, in the area south of Lloyd, is Cow Creek. That creek, which empties into the Missouri River, is a great trout fishery. Again, it is private land for the most part so permission must be obtained. Cow Creek information can best be gained by inquiring at Lloyd or Cleveland.
In the sister mountain range to the east, there is a great brook trout fishing on that mountain ranges' Beaver Creek. Access to those waters can best be found by taking a road west of the Camp Creek campground at Zortman. As well, information about Little Rocky trout fishing can be easily obtained most anywhere in Zortman.
