Havre area candidate forum set

By Ron VandenBoom

A candidate forum will be held on Tuesday, May 23, at the Havre Holiday Village Shopping Center in the vacant store directly across from Payless Shoes.

The forum/debate will begin at 7 p.m. and is sponsored by the Havre Daily News, Business and Professional Women, and the Holiday Village Shopping Center.

According to Judy King, one of the organizers of the event, the forum will give the community a chance to meet all of the candidates for local office. The candidates will be given three minutes each to introduce themselves to the audience before the debates begin.

Each candidate will then take questions from the audience and be given three minutes to respond. In the case of contested races, candidates will each be allowed to respond to the questions for three minutes.

Contested races are for House District 90:

Democrat

Antoinette (Toni) Hagener

Republican

Merlin Wolery.

Contested race for House District 91:

Democrat

Roberta Demarest

Democrat

John Musgrove.

Uncontested candidates expected to attend the forum are:

Kathy Bessette D. Hill County Commissioner,

Dena Tippets D. Hill County Clerk of District Court,

John Warner non-partisan Judge District 12,

Matt McCann D. Representative House District 92.

The forum begins at 7 p.m. and is expected to last until about 9 p.m.

The public is encouraged to attend the forum and to ask questions of the candidates, King said. There is no charge for the forum.

King added that this is the first annual forum and that he would love to see future forums for other political contests and would also like to see one after the primary.

Anyone with questions concerning the forum should contact the Havre Daily News at 265-6795 or Judy King at 262-9939.
