BUTTE Shaela Evenson of Havre recently graduated with highest honors from Montana Tech of the University of Montana.

Evenson, who majored in occupational safety and health/applied health option with a minor in biology, played both basketball and volleyball, volunteered in the community and earned multiple awards while maintaining a 3.75 grade-point average at Tech.

Marilyn Tobin, women's volleyball coach at Tech, said Evenson is the only student in the last few years participating in the overlapping seasons of both volleyball and basketball. She was voted most valuable player by her volleyball team, and received the Peg Sarsfield Award for Tech's Outstanding Female Athlete at the Spring Awards Banquet this year.

Evenson's other awards include academic all-conference awards for both basketball and volleyball, the NAIA scholar all-American awards for both sports, the Frontier Conference defensive specialist of the year awards, and the Team Defensive Specialist Award for basketball.

In community activities, Evenson has participated in the Jeremy Bullock Walk Against Violence annually; has been a summer camp coach; has taken an active role in "Kid's Night Out," an evening of activities for youth, and has participated in the Big Brothers and Sisters program.
