Dozens of pieces of art by some of the Hi-Line's best and youngest artists are currently on display at the Heritage Center in Havre.
Works by students from Blue Sky School, Devlin Elementary School, and Havre High School, compose the month-long exhibit that features pencil and water color works, as well as ceramic works that are practical and artistic.
Individual works include two linocut printed landscapes entitled "Here Come the Zebras," and "Park in the Winter." Both express a depth of range and sense of color that are amazingly acute for such young artists.
Also displayed are shoes. Not ordinary shoes, but paper mache shoes of brilliant colors containing subtile messages that serve as more than unique works of art, but also as a unique medium of individual expression.
Some realistic pencil portraits also grace the walls of the gallery. The techniques are not unique but the quality of the work is extraordinary.
Donna McGregor, curator of the H. Earl Clack Museum, said about one pencil work, "I feel I should know that guy." The realism and quality of the drawing expresses not only the talent of the artist, but an ability to capture a depth of emotion.
Stylized portraits in collage, are displayed next to monochrome portraits, and a humorous print entitled "A Midnight Visitor" is bound to attract attention. Wire was also a medium in the construction of a motorcycle, a rose and a butterfly.
Visitors to the museum gallery will find no limit to the variety of styles and mediums used in the exhibits and they will most certainly be surprised at the quality of work produced in the three schools.
The exhibit will remain at the Heritage Center through the month of June and there is no charge to view the gallery.
Hours if operation are Monday-Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
