MILO SONSTENG

Milo M. Sonsteng, 89, Havre, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000 at the home of his daughter in Billings following a short illness.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday in the Holland and Bonine Funeral Chapel. A gathering of friends at the Senior Citizens' Center will follow the service.

There will be a second funeral service at 10 a.m. Saturday in Glasgow at the Bell Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow the Glasgow service at the Hillview Cemetery in Hinsdale.

Sonsteng was born Jan. 29, 1912 in Pope County, Swift Falls, Minn. to Arnold and Clara (Huseby) Sonsteng. He was four years old when his family took up the homestead in Valley County. He

attended school at Center Bell School in Lustre.

Sonsteng married Ailie Marie Kauppen in Hinsdale. They operated the Valley County Old Folks Home in the old courthouse for several years in the late 1940s and '50s.

He later married Ione Frost Faraasen.

Sonsteng worked for Great Northern Railroad in Glasgow and eventually transferred to Havre. He retired in 1972 after 31 years with the railroad.

He had an ear for music and became an accomplished musician. He enjoyed playing violin and played for dances and various community events throughout the years.

Sonsteng was preceded in death by a 9-year-old son, Marvin in 1952; daughter, LaVonne in 1989; five brothers; two sisters.

Survivors include his daughter, Dee Rowe of Billings; son, Melvin Milo Sonsteng of Havre; brothers, Lyle Sonsteng of Sheridan, Wyo., Kenneth Sonsteng and Stanley Sonsteng, both of Glasgow, and Douglas Sonsteng of Wolf Point; sisters, Helen Hagen of Moorhead, Minn., Mildred Knight of Glasgow, and Arlene Decker of Santa Fe, N.M.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Hillview Cemetery in Hinsdale, MT 59241.
