Merry Christmas, Happy holidays from the HDN staff

By HDN Staff

It's that time of year again. The moment when relief washes over so many of us like a warm blanket in the middle of a cold Montana winter. The stockings are hung, the presents are wrapped, and the cookies are baked. We can finally take the time to sit back and enjoy this season which seems to have been in the making since late October.

We, at the Havre Daily News, take this opportunity to wish everyone a truly Merry Christmas. Like so many, we too have experienced our share of holiday stress, however, now that this greatly anticipated weekend is upon us, we hope that all stress will be forgotten, and that Christmas will be a truly blessed time for each and every one of our readers.

We hope you enjoy the following poem entitled "Reporter's Christmas":

Twas the week before Christmas and the newsroom was filled

With papers and ads and people with bills.

Readers were angry and completely stressed out

I began to forget what this season's about

"My name was misspelled," "You forgot my team's score",

"Your front page story was really a bore"

No visions of sugar plums danced in my head

My holiday spirit was pretty much dead

With deadlines approaching and constant phone calls

I had no time for making snowballs

I had hardly noticed the snow covered ground

Or the colorful lights that glittered the town

And then like a twister my work week flew by

Christmas this weekend? I wanted to cry!

The season was over as quick as it started

And my Christmas cheer was all but whole-hearted

So I decided right then to seize the day

And I was off on my merry way

I went to the store and bought gifts for my friends

I bought lights and garlands that seemed not to end

I went back to work with a smile and a grin

Until all of my stories were printed and in

I was so happy, my deadlines were done

My assignments were finished, except for just one...

I had to come up with some clever way

Of wishing our readers a great holiday

And to tell them thanks for being so kind

To frazzled reporters during the holiday grind

I sprang to my desk with a pen in my hand

And wrote down this poem, which isn't too grand

But it's meant to remind you that we all get stressed out

But that isn't what Christmas should be about!

We wish everyone peace and prosperity during this holiday season. Merry Christmas from the Havre Daily News.
