H. EDWARD "ED" HOPEWELL, SR.

H. Edward "Ed" Hopewell, Sr., 89, died Weds., Dec. 20, 2000 of natural causes at a Havre care center. Cremation has taken place.

A private family service will be held. A graveside service will be held at a later date.

Hopewell was born in Northumberland, Pa. to Hiram Burton and Hannah (Renner) Hopewell on Sept. 27, 1911. He graduated from Northumberland PA High School.

Hopewell married Virginia Thornton on Dec. 12, 1936 in Flagstaff, Az. He worked in Vera Cruz, Mexico as part of the U.S. Government's AFTOSA Program for vaccinating cattle against hoof and mouth disease. They moved to Havre in 1955.

He was a U.S. Border Patrol intelligence officer for 35 years, a member of the Toastmasters, and a farm and ranch owner. He enjoyed hunting, skiing, trapping, and mining.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Virginia in 1998; and a grandson, Franc Hopewell.

Survivors include his sister, Myrtle Shaw of De.; brothers, Bill Hopewell of Northumberland, Pa. and Joe Hopewell of Milton, Pa.; sons, Ed Jr. of Hamilton, Byron of King George, Va., Burton of Great Falls, Del of Bradenton, Fl., Lewis of Spokane, Wa.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
