NORBERT HOULE

ROCKY BOY Norbert "Smokey" Houle, 69, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000 at a Great Falls hospital due to cancer.

Funeral services will be noon Thursday at the Rocky Boy Catholic Church with burial to follow at the Rocky Boy Cemetery.

Houle was born Aug. 4, 1931 to Martin and Mary E. (LaMere) Houle in Havre.

He attended elementary schools in Rocky Boy and Havre.

In 1949, Houle went through and completed his carpenter apprenticeship in Havre and the surrounding Hi-Line area. In 1959, he moved to Great Falls with his family and began a career with his father and brother as a cement finisher. He retired in 1995.

In 1952, Houle married Edith Nicholson of Havre. They later divorced.

Houle had a brief relationship with Donna LaFromboise and later married Shirley Henderson.

Houle enjoyed playing guitar and fiddle with his family and friends. As a teen-ager, he boxed in Havre and won many titles.

Houle enjoyed camping, fishing and the outdoors. He also enjoyed spending time with his wife and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Murray Houle and Martin L. (Chick) Houle; stepson, Loren.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Houle of Great Falls; daughters, Cindy Houle of Great Falls, Heather Houle of Miles City, and Lonnie, Laura, Carol and Leann (Teeny One); sons, Casey Houle, Bruce Houle, John Houle and Lee Houle, all of Great Falls; brother, Sonny Houle of Great Falls; numerous grandchildren and great-randchildren.

Services and arrangements are under the direction of the Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.
