Defense, digging, and darn hard workers could describe the Box Elder Bears' volleyball program this fall.
Box Elder, sporting one of the larger 5C volleyball teams, returns four starters to this year's team.
Seniors Tessie LaMere, Josephine Windy Boy, and Sommer Rosette, and junior Ashlee Raining Bird return to the squad.
Garilee Henderson, at 5-foot-10, Patty Morning, and Tana Rock are juniors on the team.
Josie Rosette is the lone sophomore, while Nicole Mitchell, Chassidy Parisian, Tami Infante, Brandy Lawerence, Mimi Ketchum, Sara Big Knife, Lynnel DeMontiney, Lisa Ornelas, and Tahseena Duran round out the roster.
"Our biggest strengths are defense, digging, and receiving loose balls," head coach Shiloh Schwab said.
Schwab, in her first year at the helm of the program, has made a few adjustments to the system.
"We are going to be more disciplined and a little bit more structured," Schwab said.
Throughout the season, Schwab would like to see serve consistency, communication, and hustle.
"We need to go after all loose balls and I just want to see them improve each game," she said.
Box Elder went 1-1 before the Christmas break, knocking off Hays/Lodgepole and falling to Rocky Boy.
The Bears just might be one of the tallest teams on the court this season.
"We could be on of the biggest teams on the Hi-Line," Schwab said. "We have a pretty good-sized team here."
The Bears will take on the Rocky Boy Morning Stars in conference action on Wednesday, Jan. 5 at Rocky Boy.
