A spring trip to Edmonton seems to be in the Havre High School Symphonic Band's future.
The Havre Board of Trustees unanimously approved a request for the band to attend the Emonton Cantondo Music Festival from April 30 to May 3, 2000.
The festival's schedule includes having attending bands perform the first day, then listen to other bands, guests, soloists and university bands the rest of the day and evening.
A 60-minute workshop will be presented on the second day. Band members will also attend 90-minute clinics for their specific instruments. Guest artists will perform concerts for the rest of the day.
The festival will replace the band's attending the Montana AA Band Festival. Havre High Activities Director Charlie Klimas said that although Havre has continued to attend in the past, the school's Class A status has required searching for an alternative event.
While the AA festival's directors told Klimas Havre could still attend this year, the school probably will not be invited in the future, Klimas said.
While talking to other Class A schools about alternatives to the AA festival, Havre received positive feedback about the Edmonton event, Klimas said.
Havre is discussing the possibility of forming a new festival independent of the AA event with other Class A schools, Klimas said.
