George O. Hedger
George O. Hedger, 94, a resident of the Big Sandy Medical Center/Nursing Home, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000 of natural causes.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral services will be held at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Missoula at a later date.
He was born Oct. 24, 1904 to Ralph Alanzo and Mary Elizabeth (Barker) Hedger in Corning, Iowa. His family moved to Golden Valley, N.D. to homestead. They later moved to Adams County, N.D.
He was a farmer, rancher and cowboy in North Dakota and South Dakota. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II in the South Pacific in the Guadalcanal and the North Solomons campaigns.
He returned and married Margaret (Gores) Hess in November of 1947. He retired from the Anaconda Lumber Mill in Bonner in 1970 and he and his wife ran the Hedger Trailer Court in Missoula for many years.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Millworkers Union #3038, both of Missoula.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, card playing and anything to do with horses. He always had a sense of humor, could tell a good story and was generous to all. He was a member of St. Anthony's Parish in Missoula.
He was preceded in death by one sister, four brothers, his parents, his wife, Margaret and a stepson, Clifford Hedger.
He is survived by his sister, Esther Nant of Tennessee; two grandchildren, Lloyd Hedger, Tacoma, Wash., and Kathy Barts, Havre; three great-grandchildren of Havre and numerous nieces and nephews.
