Blue Sky wins title at Malta

Nine of Blue Sky High School's best speakers combined to earn 36 team points and win the Class C Speech sweepstakes trophy at the Malta Invitational Forensics meet Saturday, Jan. 15.

Taking individual first place honors were Justus Wendland, a sophomore, in Extemp, and Brittanee Lincoln, a senior, in Oratory.

In Impromptu, Murry Warhank placed second and April Horinek placed sixth. Mike Jurenka placed third in Extemp, Stephanie George was a finalist in expository. Blue Sky's lone dramatist, Jake Strissel, placed fifth in Pantomime, earning a second place team finish in the Class C Drama sweepstakes.

Mark Hybner also competed in Extemp, Trace Herman in Humorous Oral Interp, and Ashlee Lincoln was a contender in Serious Oral Interp.

Coaches Laurel Walker and Ann Warhank said they are pleased with this year's team progress. They also want to thank all the students and community members who have been so helpful while Walker was hospitalized, they said.

They said special thanks go out to Brittanee Lincoln, Murry Warhank and Mike Jurenka, senior members of the team, who have done tremendous preliminary work on the upcoming divisional tournament.

Blue Sky High School is gearing up for this coming weekend's Northern Divisional tournament, Walker and Warhank said. Teams from 24 schools will enter nearly 200 students in the tournament. These students will vie for placing at the State Class A-B-C tournament to be hosted by Havre High School the following weekend.
