Blue Pony spikers peek at proper time

The Havre Blue Pony volleyball team has worked its way to the top of the Central A again this year.

The Blue Ponies (19-4, 8-2) defeated the Park High Rangers 12-15, 15-5, 8-15, 15-6, 15-11 last Friday to clinch the regular season conference title in the North Subdivision.

The win propelled the Ponies to a No. 1 seed at this weekend's Central A divisional tournament, beginning Thursday at the B.W. Lodge Gymnasium at Dillon.

The Ponies will open against the Anaconda Copperheads (2-8, conference) at 2 p.m. on Thursday.

The Pony team not only left the regular season behind them in the top spot, but the Blue Ponies also finished No. 1 in team serve percentage. They served 90.37 percent throughout the season.

Senior Lisa Wagner plays a key role in the team number. Wagner finished No. 1 with a 97.98 individual serving percent.

Wagner has missed just seven serves the entire season.

Senior Erin Patera, a returning All-State selection from last season's state championship team, is No. 1 in aces and digs, and jumped into the No. 2 spot in kills.

Patera notched 282 kills on the season, averaging 3.29 per game. Angela Bausch leads the conference, averaging 3.64 per game.

Patera leads the conference with 78 aces, averaging .861 on the year. She collected 11 aces during last weekend's matches at Livingston.

Patera has 237 digs on the year to lead the conference. She averages 2.95 per game. She is also seventh in blocks, averaging .468 per game.

Senior Tiffany Shrauger is strong defensively for Havre, also, as she is No. 2 in the league in digs. She also has 237 digs on the year, averaging 2.91 per game.

Shrauger is sixth in the league in aces, with 60 on the season. She is averaging .646 per game.

Wagner and senior Kirsten Kuka are ranked sixth and seventh, respectively, in assists. Wagner collects 3.95 per game, while Kuka averages 3.70.

Sophomore Amy Ranes has made great strides throughout the season. The 5-foot-11 middle hitter is eighth in the conference in kills, averaging 2.06 per game.

She is seventh in the league in blocks, averaging .430 per game.
