The Chinook Sugarbeeters boys' basketball team ended their season with a 59-54 loss to the Wolf Point Wolves at the North-East B divisional tournament held at Malta during the weekend.
The Sugarbeeters were catapulted to the loser out bracket after dropping a 59-42 game to the Cut Bank Wolves on Thursday.
Troy Omsberg and Justin Friede led the Sugarbeeters with eight points apiece in the contest.
"Against Cut Bank in the opener, we were tentative, as a result, we appeared to be satisfied to just have a spot in the divisional tournament," Chinook head coach Mark Roseberry said. "After that loss, however, I was very pleased to see the team dig deeper and find their usual spirited character for the remainder of the tourney."
It was the third loss to Cut Bank in as many tries this season.
Chinook defeated Conrad 60-50 in loser out action on Friday. Kalled Jaha led the Sugarbeeters with 18 points and six rebounds.
Adam Gibson added 14 points and Omsberg chipped in 10 in the win.
"The contest with Conrad was close throughout, but desire and good team hustle brought home the win," Roseberry said.
Against Wolf Point on Saturday, Omsberg scored a game-high 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the contest. Scott Fritz had 10 boards in the game.
"Our defensive intensity stepped up again against Wolf Point," Roseberry said. "We were also determined and prepared not to let their pressure take us out of the game. The 'Beeters were right there until the final buzzer, and I was very gratified to witness their will to win and commitment to an all-effort win or lose."
