Havres Walk-America slated for May

Help save a baby's life, join the March of Dimes in Walk-America next May in Havre.

Today, 151 babies will be born so small they have to fight for their lives and 93 babies will be born with hearts that don't work.

The Walk-America is a walk that saves babies and helps prevent birth defects. For sixty two years the March of Dimes has been working towards the day when no innocent baby must face these tragedies. March of Dimes lifesaving research and innovative prevention programs have saved millions of babies from death or disability. With the help of the public the March of Dimes can give all of these babies a fighting chance.

The March of Dimes is looking for people, in Havre, interested in helping with this years March of Dimes Walk-America.

Communication Assistance R. Mykel L. Novinski said, "you can be a hero by helping us promote our mission through Walk-America."

This is the March of Dimes biggest fund raiser and funds supports life-giving research and community programs that save innocent babies from birth defects, low birthweight and infant death. Since its beginning in 1970 Walk-America has raised more than $1 billion.

The walkers whether they are part of a team or individuals raise money through the support of sponsors such as friends, family, work and businesses. The donation goes to the March of Dimes for their work.

The March of Dimes funds vital research programs such as:

Gene therapy research that uses healthy genes to cure birth defects.

A study of premature birth and how to stop it.

A campaign to spread the lifesaving message that B vitamin folic acid may help prevent birth defects of the brain and spinal cord.

Development of the state children's health insurance programs for 11 million uninsured children.

The March of Dimes Resource Center, which provides expert answers to questions about pregnancy and birth defects to people around the world.

When people join Walk-America they truly become heroes for babies, according to the Montana Big sky chapter Rocky Mountain Division of March of Dimes. Registration for the walk starts at 9 a.m. - the five mile walk starts at 10 p.m.
