Sweetgrass Pow-wow results announced

Nearly everyone who attended last weekend's 2000 Sweetgrass Society Pow-wow was a winner.

The powwow attracted numerous fans, singers and dancers to the MSU-Northern gym from throughout the area and provided two days of entertainment for the entire family.

Golden Age Dancers who performed during the Friday and Saturday event were Tonia Ackerman, Jeanne Hobbs, Alice Big Knife, Margaret Murray and Ruby Big Knife.

The winners in each of the competitive dance categories and were:

Jr. Girls' Fancy 1. Cassie Morsette, Hays; 2. Tishanna Bull, Saskatchewan, Canada; 3. Randy Small, Rocky Boy.

Jr. Girls' Jingle 1. Morgon One Spot, Rocky Boy; 2. Jaycyne Coffee, Rocky Boy; 3. Tommie Martell, Wolf Point.

Jr. Girls' Traditional 1. Gemma Doore, Harlem; 2. Jeri Lynn Nepoose, Rocky Boy; 3. Sonora Standing Rock, Rocky Boy.

Teen Girls' Fancy 1. Lorna Martell, Wolf Point; 2. Kassie Nicholson, Fort Belknap; 3. Janette Bell, Hays.

Sweetgrass Society is open to all students, both Indian and non-Indian. It is also open to members of the surrounding community who want to be involved. The club actively participates in dozens of activities at Northern and throughout the community each year.
