BARBARA VANDEPETE: Obituary

Barbara (Conway) VanDePete, 82, Havre librarian, died Monday, April 24, 2000 at a Great Falls hospital of natural causes.

Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Holland & Bonine Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jack Rampelberg officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.

VanDePete was born March 26, 1918 in Ronan to Walter L. and Thorna (Brown) Conway. She was educated in Kalispell elementary schools and Chinook High School.

VanDePete graduated from the University of Montana with a degree in library economy. She started her library career at Dawson County High School and Junior College in 1939.

In December 1941 she married James J. VanDePete in Baltimore, Md.

After the war, the family moved to Havre where her husband worked for the Great Northern Railway and she was librarian at Havre Public Library. She went to the Northern Montana College Library in 1963 and remained there until her retirement in 1978.

After the death of her husband in 1992, she returned to her library love and volunteered at the Hill County Library and later the Havre-Hill County Library. There she continued donating her time while combining her two interests of library work and genealogy.

VanDePete was preceded in death by her husband, James in 1992, and son-in-law Donald Vaughn in 1997.

Memorials may be made to the Havre-Hill County Library or the Genealogy Society.
