Latchkey Kids ADOPT Havre

By Tim Leeds

Latchkey Kids from the HELP program adopted Havre a few days early Tuesday.

Laura Malisani, family school coordinator with HELP and the Havre Public Schools, said 15 of the kids in the Latchkey Kids program picked up trash between the Oakwood Village Apartments and the Eagles Park as their regular Tuesday meeting from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Malisani said they discussed park and traffic safety while they worked on cleaning up. She said they discussed crossing the street, the need to wear shoes in the park, and other safety issues.

She said they even found a bike covered in the grass and weeds they turned over to the police department.

Malisani said they decided to join the ADOPT Havre cleanup as one community project for the group. She said they did this last year as well, and are looking for more projects to do.

The official ADOPT Havre cleanup will take place this Saturday. It was postponed from its original April 15 date due to snow.
