They were confident just enough to know that they could capture the Central A divisional crowns.
And both the Havre Blue Pony boys' and girls' golf teams did just that at Lewistown on Saturday.
Nick Obie, Jason Johnstone, and Kevin Harada placed in the top 10 to pace the Blue Ponies, who won with a 333.
Obie placed second overall with a 76, Johnstone fired an 82 for a fourth-place finish, and Harada shot an 86 and placed 10th.
Troy Toner and Kyle Sheppard each fired an 89 and finished in the top 20 at the meet.
The Belgrade Panthers finished second just four strokes off Havre with a 337. Belgrade's Taylor Madison won individual golf medalist honors with a 72 during the 18-hole tournament.
Dillon placed third with a 343 and Lewistown was fourth with a 345. The top four teams and top 20 individual medalists advance to the state tournament.
The Havre girls accomplished a major goal with a first-place finish at the meet. They fired a 427 to capture the gold.
Lisa Wagner and teammate Jessica Sande tied for top honors with a 95. Julie Wagner placed seventh with a 111. Jenni Solomon and Katie Miller also placed in the top 20 with a 126 and 127, respectively.
The State A tournament will be held at the Whitefish Lake Country Club on Tuesday and Wednesday, with a practice round slated for Monday.
Dillon placed second with a 436, Belgrade was third with a 463, and Livingston was fourth with a 469.
