Damion Martindale, an NAIA All-American wrestler in 1999, has been hired to work part-time for the Havre Daily News sports department.

"I love sports and I love to cover sports," Martindale said.

Martindale, a native of Portland, Ore., was a 1994 graduate of Marshall High School.

He attended Clackamus Community College from 1994-97 and transferred to MSU-Northern in 1998.

As a wrestler, he earned NJCAA national runner-up honors.

He wrestled at heavyweight for two seasons at Northern, where he is majoring in English literature and business. His expected graduation is the summer, 2001.

At Northern, Martindale placed third at the NAIA national tournament in 1999 and seventh in 2000.

Martindale's parents, Lloyd and Bonnie, reside in Portland.

In his free time, Martindale enjoys the outdoors and fishing.

"I would fish every day if I could," Martindale said, citing Fresno Lake for the quality walleye and Bear Paw Lake for the trout.

Martindale's wife, Heather, is also employed with the Daily News.

Martindale will be covering some college athletic programs as well as some Hi-Line schools.
