ALBERT GUSTAFSON: Obituary

BIG SANDY Albert (Slim) Anselm Gustafson, 98, died of natural causes Monday, May 15, 2000 at a Big Sandy nursing home.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Big Sandy. Burial will follow at the Big Sandy Cemetery.

Gustafson was born Aug. 9, 1901 in Detroit Lakes, Minn. He came to Montana in 1920.

Gustafson farmed in the Brockton and Fairfield areas. He built an airport in Wolf Point and worked on the Fort Peck Dam. He was a veteran of both World War One and World War Two. He purchased the Montana Hotel in Big Sandy in 1951.

Gustafson married Alma Jappe Lanning July 23, 1957. They ran the Intermountain Bus Depot and Hotel in Big Sandy until 1976. He was a talented machinist and woodworker.

Gustafson was a member of the American Legion Post #50 for 48 years, Big Sandy's Historical Society, and Senior Citizens. He was the Masons treasurer, Lodge 95 AF&AM.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and two stepchildren: Louise Bush and Wilbur Lanning.

Survivors include his stepson, Harry Gustafson of Yakima, Wash.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Big Sandy Historical Center and Big Sandy Senior Citizens Center.
