Chase to walk-on Northern Lights wrestling team

MSU-Northern Head Wrestling Coach David Ray announced the recent addition of Kansas native Kris Chase on Monday.

Chase, a 5-foot-8, 160-pound, four-time Kansas state placer will fit nicely into the three-time defending national champions program, Ray said.

"Kris will be walking-on to the team, but has a great chance of becoming a contributor for the team in the years to come," Ray said. "You can tell when your program is successful when you get quality wrestlers like Chase wanting to walk onto the team."

Chase won a national title at the AAU National tournament held in Tulsa, Okla., in April.

"We know we are getting a high-quality, talented wrestler in Kris, and I cannot wait to see where this kid takes himself," Ray concluded.

Not only is Chase a good wrestler, he also holds his own in the classroom, accumulating a 3.25 GPA in his four years at ACHS.

Chase will most likely wrestle 149-157 pounds for the Lights in the 2001 season.

Chase is the son of Roger Chase and Linda Chase, and step-mother Shelby Chase.
