Congratulations to the winners of Tuesday's primary election, and to all the candidates on running professional campaigns. For the most part they all focused on the issues.
Now the true work begins for those candidates running opposed. We would trust that they continue to focus on the issues facing Montanans. The residents of this state deserve that from their candidates.
It is easy to naysay about the incumbent's record. Granted, prior performance is a good indicator of future performance, however it is equally important for our candidates to let their constituents know how they will deal with the issues facing the state. We are all aware of the many tough issues facing the state of Montana. We consider economic development for our state to be at the top of the list.
It is our opinion the best way for candidates to focus on the issues and inform us how their strategy differs from their opponents is to debate. We recognize the candidates have agreed to some televised debates, however we believe there is nothing like listening to candidates in person. They should not forget about Havre and our section of the Hi-Line. Hi-Line residents need to know how we fit in to the bigger picture.
We at The Havre Daily News believe more is better. We would once again like to extend an invitation to all of the candidates the opportunity and venue to debate the issues in Havre.
