U.S. Army celebrates birthday

Havre Mayor Phyllis Leonard joined a small crowd of well-wishers Wednesday at the United States Army Recruiting Station to celebrate the U.S. Army's 225th birthday.

Leonard read a proclamation citing the accomplishments and sacrifices of the those who have served in the Army since its inception in 1775. She then signed the proclamation declaring June 12 - 18 to be United States Army Week in Havre.

Leonard exhorted all citizens of Havre to show their gratitude to all those who have served, or are serving in the Army, to protect the nation and freedom.

After signing the proclamation, Leonard assisted Staff Sgt. Brandon Johnson, commander of the Havre Recruiting Station, in cutting a birthday cake.

Coffee and cake were provided visitors throughout the day who stopped in to visit and congratulate the Army.
