The MSU-Northern Skylights, as well as the Frontier Conference, have revamped their golf schedule for the upcoming 2000-01 season.
Fifty-four hole tournaments will be held on Monday and Tuesday throughout the season. The golfers will shoot 27 holes per day and each Frontier Conference school in Montana will host a tournament in the fall. The non-Montana Frontier schools will host one tournament apiece in the spring.
Montana Tech (Butte), Rocky Mountain College (Billings), Western Montana College (Dillon), and Carroll College (Helena) will host the fall tournaments. Westminster (Salt Lake City, Utah) and L-C State (Lewiston, Idaho) will host the spring tournaments.
Westminster added both men's and women's golf for the upcoming season. Northern is the only school to offer only women's golf.
"The girls will know exactly when they will be gone and they will actually miss less days of school," said Chris Handley, the new Skylights golf coach.
The schedule change will actually give the golfers more numbers on the course in fewer days, he added.
However, due to the previous absence of a coach, Havre currently does not have a host tournament scheduled for the upcoming season.
The Frontier Conference, recently recognized on a national level thanks impart to Rocky Mountain College, is pushing to become even more recognized nationwide, Handley said, which is another reason for the schedule change.
Rocky has qualified for the national tournament during the past two seasons. The Battlin' Bears finished 17th at this year's tournament.
