Area officials with the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks have come across what they say is a senseless poaching of two antelope in Hunting District 690 near Chinook.
According to a news release issued by Shelly Hiron of TIP-MONT, someone killed two antelope two miles south of the Plainsman Lounge and Steakhouse Bar on or about June 12. The two were abandoned and a fawn was orphaned.
Hiron said there is no legal season on antelope at this time and that her agency is asking the public's help in catching the people responsible for the crime.
Hiron said orphaned animals are caught when possible and taken to the Helena Animal Shelter for later release. In this case, the fawn could not be caught.
Warden Chris Wright is asking for the public's help and stresses that anyone who calls him directly at (406) 357-3183 or the TIP-MONT Hotline at 1-800-847-6668 will remain completely confidential.
There also is a potential reward for information leading to an arrest for the poaching. TIP-MONT is a 24-hour hotline.
