DONALD ALLEN

CHINOOK Donald L. Allen, 73, died at his home in Chinook Thursday, Aug. 3, 2000 of natural causes.

Memorial services are 2 p.m. today at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel. Military graveside services will be held in Kuper Memorial Cemetery.

Allen was born May 13, 1927 to Asath and Clara (Butterfield) Allen in Berkeley, Calif. He attended schools in Orville and Beckworth, Calif.

Allen joined the U.S. Navy and served in World War II. He went to work logging with his father in northern California after the war and then joined the U.S. Army and served in the Korean Conflict.

Allen married Irene Steffen on Dec. 4, 1951 in Reno, Nev. The couple moved to Chinook in 1953.

Allen worked in the oil fields and then as a butcher for Buttrey Foods. He was also a custodian at Northern Montana College and later for Chinook Meats. He retired due to health reasons in 1988.

Allen was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved horses and enjoyed trail rides and working cattle.

Allen was a longtime member of The Christian Church, was patriotic and proud to have served his country.

Survivors include his wife, Irene of Chinook; son, David Allen of Chinook; daughter, Sharon Richardson of Havre; five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Blaine County Veterans.
