KREMLIN Students, teachers, staff and board members of KG Elementary School were joined by community members to read for 2001 seconds Friday, Dec. 8.
The silent reading was part of Read for 2001, a global program sponsored by Scholastic, Inc. to promote reading and celebrate New Year's 2001.
Students from grades 1-6 from the school and the teachers, administrators, the board and community members joined other participants from around the world in about 33 1/3 minutes of silent reading. The reading started at noon in the elementary school.
Terry Schaub, a teacher at KG, said everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. She said it was a unique idea to think that people from around the world would all be reading at the same time.
After the reading was over, group discussions were held to talk about people's favorite books. The adults in the groups talked about what their favorite books were when they were children.
Refreshments were served and a drawing was held after the discussions were over.
