JOHN CHOPWOOD
LODGEPOLE John Phillip Chopwood, Sr., Indian name "Crane" "cha po," 57, died at a Havre hospital of a cerebral vascular accident (stroke) Monday, Dec. 25, 2000.
A wake will begin at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Medicine Bear Lodge in Lodgepole. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, with burial to follow in the Lodgepole Cemetery.
Chopwood was born March 5, 1943 at Fort Belknap to Wallace A. and Esther (McConnell) Chopwood. He was raised and educated in Lodgepole.
He enlisted into the U.S. Army in April of 1963 and served in Korea and was discharged in 1965.
He married Charlotte First Chief in 1970. She died in 1989.
Chopwood worked for the BIA in the road department and as security guard for the Lodgepole School. He retired in 1989 due to health problems.
Chopwood enjoyed powwows and visiting with friends.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Joylin Chopwood, in July of 2000, and a brother, Benjamin Chopwood, in 1949.
Survivors include his son, John P. Chopwood, Jr. of Lodgepole; daughter, Ruby Chopwood of Great Falls; father, Wallace Chopwood of Lodgepole; and one granddaughter.
