The streets of Havre were Y2K compliant New Year's Eve thanks in large part to the Hill County Tavern Association, Havre Ford, Montana Department of Transportation, DUI Task Force and H.E.L.P. Committee.
These groups combined efforts to once again offer Havre partygoers a safe and sober New Year's Eve.
The red insulated mugs with the safe and sober logo were distributed to the designated drivers during the evening's partying. The designated drivers could consume all of the non-alcoholic beverages they wanted thanks to the tavern owners across town.
Because of their efforts, no DUIs were reported during the evening. And the Havre Police and Hill County Sheriff's departments were out in full force New Year's Eve. One male driver was arrested and charged with DUI in the early morning hours Friday.
Pete Steinmetz, owner of Havre Ford, provides the vans used in the Home Free program for those partygoers who may have enjoyed the New Year's celebration a little too much and didn't have a designated driver to drive them safely home.
But even more important than the lack of DUIs was the fact that everyone lived through the celebration. The Havre Fire Department personnel only responded to medical emergencies and no highway fatalities.
We give a tip of the hat to these people and organizations for helping keep all of us safe during the holiday season so that we may be around for the next major celebration.
