The Milk River Angus Association weighed their bulls for a 64-day weight on Jan. 2, at Hould Feedlot in Malta. There are 129 bulls on test consigned by 11 members. The top 100 bulls will sell in the Milk River "Profit Potential" Angus Sale on April 25, 2000, in Chinook.
Leading all consignors with a 4.3 pounds average daily gain is an entry from Vinee' Baird (Master Angus) of Chinook. The bull is a Feb. 9, son of Connealy Dateline and has EPD's of birth +3; weaning, +33; milk, +19; and yearling, +59. This bull is also second in the weight per day of age category, gaining 3.3 pounds a day since birth. He currently weighs 1,080 pounds.
Top Notch Angus of Havre has the second high gainer at 4.22 pounds a day. He is a 1,060 pound Thomas Latigo son born Feb. 5. His EPD's are birth, +4.5; weaning, +49; milk, +6; and yearling, +82.
Taking the third spot in average daily gain is a consignment from Bruce Hould of Malta. His Feb. 10, son of GDAR Rolls Royce 203 weighed in at 1,035 pounds to gain 3.91 pounds a day. His EPD's are birth, +4.2; weaning, +31; milk, +17; yearling, +60.
There was a three-way tie for the fourth place. West Fork Angus, Gale Jellum, of Chinook, has one bull and Hould has two gaining 3.83 pounds a day.
The West Fork bull is a Feb. 14, son of Connealy Dateline weighing 1,025 pounds. His EPD's are birth, +0.9; weaning, +23; milk, +19; and yearling, +47. Hould's bulls are a 1,000 pound son of Fairview Dividend 4004 with EPD's of birth, +2.9; weaning, +32; milk, +19; and yearling, +56 and a 970 pound son of Gardens Prime Time with EPD's of birth, +2; weaning, +25; milk, +15; and yearling, +60.
Topping the weight per day of age category at 3.41 pounds a day was a son of RITO 9FB3 of 5H11 Fullback from DH Registered Angus, Dale Hofeldt, of Lloyd. The Feb. 24, bull weighed in at 1,065 pounds and had EPD's of birth, +6.4; weaning, +35; milk, +17; yearling, +57.
E7 Angus of Harlem and Hould and Master Angus are in a three way tie for second in the weight per day of age. All these bulls are gaining 3.3 pounds. E7 Angus has a March 17, son of Triple Heart weighing 970 pounds and has EPD's of birth, +0.5; weaning, +26; milk, +14; and yearling, +46. Hould has a March 2, son of JR Ambush 219G weighing 1,010 with EPD's of birth +3.4; weaning, +28; milk, +14; and yearling, +49. The Master Angus bull is the same Dateline son that is leading the average daily gain test.
Hould currently has the biggest bull on test weighing 1,130 pounds and gaining 3.29 pounds in the weight per day of age for third spot in this category. His Jan. 24, son of Fairview Dividend 4004 has EPD's of birth, +3.4; weaning, +28; milk, +14; and yearling, +51.
After 64 days on test the whole group of Milk River Angus bulls averaged 900 pounds with 2.8 pounds average daily gain and 2.8 pounds weight per day of age. The average birth weight of the bulls in 85 pounds.
