MILES CITY -- It was time to take on the east this weekend as the Havre High Blue Ponies wrestled at the Cowboy Invitational at Miles City Friday and Saturday.
The Blue Ponies came out in first place with a score of 184.5 points, beating Sidney who finished second with 176 points.
Havre put three wrestlers in the finals with Chad Hedges winning at 119 pounds by a 13-12 decision.
The Blue Ponies' Nick Holt won the 130-pound weight class with an 11-2 decision.
Aaron Jensen finished second at 145 pounds. Jensen lost to Eggum of Sidney, who is ranked No. 1 in the state.
Jacob Szudera finished in third place with a 7-6 decision, and K.P. Fisher finished fourth after being pinned at the 4:50 mark.
At 105 pounds, Nick Newell finished fifth with a 7-2 decision win. Garrett Hanson also finished fifth with a 7-5 decision in his match. Havre's final point-getter was Cody Hanson who was pinned at the 2:56 mark to finish sixth at 140 pounds.
Blue Ponies' head coach Scott Filius said his team wrestled well and have gotten all the North Dakota and Wyoming schools out of the way.
Filius said they wrestled great, with all the wrestlers contributing.
"We're beating people with depth," Filius said.
But the real test will be Columbia Falls. Filius said he was unsure if anyone has enough depth to beat Columbia Falls.
The Blue Ponies head off to the Central A Duals at Butte next weekend. Havre will square off against Anaconda, Belgrade, and Colstrip. The Ponies will probably get seven duals during the weekend, but, Filius said, they will not be at full strength. They will leave some wrestlers home to heal and others have had enough matches and have to sit out.
Filius said the team to watch at the duals will be Ronan.
