HAYS -- George Joseph LaRoque, 88, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at a Havre care center of natural causes.
Rosary will be held 7 p.m. tonight at St. Paul's Mission Recreation Center. Funeral Mass will be recited 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Recreation Center with burial following at St. Paul's Mission Cemetery.
LaRoque was born Feb. 15, 1911, to Joe and Mary (Gardipee) LaRoque at Roy. He attended school and was raised west of Hays at the "Blue Heaven" area.
On Aug. 26, 1957, he married Serena King in Malta.
He worked in Butte as a truck driver and returned to Hays to work at the trading post for Edward Cuerth at Rattle Snake. He also worked for Jay Parks, George Turner, Marvin Zitzensberger and Allan Murphy.
Survivors include his wife, Serena, of Hays; a daughter, Georgiann Doney of Hays; a son, Alwayne LaRoque of Hays; step-sons, Jeb Stiffarm, Jr., of Havre, Gerald Stiffarm Sr., of Hays and Max and William White also of Hays; step-daughters, Wendy Stiffarm, Loretta Stiffarm and Lorene Doney, all of Hays, and Marie Hockhalter of Ft. Belknap Agency; brothers, Earl Swan of Hays and Al LaRoque of White Swan, Wash.; a sister, Rosie Duncan of Spokane, Wash.; 27 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.
