Northern Lights drop Westminster Griffins

SALT LAKE CITY -- The MSU-Northern Lights made it two in a row as they downed Westminster 94-81 in Frontier Conference action Thursday night.

The Lights were led by Michael Claxton who led four Northern players in double figures with 28 points and nine rebounds. Claxton was 5-for-7 from 3-point range.

Northern played a good first half as it jumped ahead of the Griffins 44-33 at the break.

The Lights outscored Westminster 50-48 in the second half to hang on for the win.

Northern shot 51 percent from the field and 53 percent from the 3-point line in the win.

Westminster was led by Mitch Montgomery who had 24 points.

Also in double figures for the Lights was Mel Stubblefield who had 16, Keith Carothers added 12, and Dustin Endsley had 11.

The win moves the Lights to 15-9 overall and 3-3 in conference play. The Griffins dropped to 9-11 overall and 2-4 in the Frontier Conference.

This was the only game for the Lights this weekend. The next game is at home on Feb. 10 against Rocky Mountain College.
