Area Class C teams make final mark on regular season as tournaments round the bend

Rocky Boy 67, Big Sandy 46

Josh Raining Bird scored a game-high 16 points to lead

the Rocky Boy Stars to a District 9C victory on Friday.

The Stars have traded wins and losses of late, and are currently 7-2 in conference play and 8-6 overall.

Daniel Weaver led the Pioneers' attack with 11 points.

Matt Myers chipped in 10 points, and Chris Yirsa popped two 3-pointers for six points in the loss.

Hays/Lodgepole 85, Big Sandy 46

Shawn Shambo poured in 33 points to lead the Thunderbirds to a District 9C victory on Saturday.

Jeremy Walker added nine points in the win.

Ten Thunderbirds scored in the victory, which helped Hays to a 6-2, 10-5 record.

When the two teams met earlier this season, Hays won a 70-59 decision.

Justin Yirsa and Weaver scored 10 points apiece for Big Sandy.

Jackson Burke and Chris Yirsa added eight apiece in the loss.

Big Sandy is currently 0-8, 1-13 in play.

Hays/Lodgepole 70, Turner 55

The Thunderbirds opened the weekend with a conference win over the Tornadoes.

Shambo scored a game-high 20 points, including three 3-pointers.

Jonas Flansburg added 10 points in the victory.

The Thunderbirds have won their last five of seven games, with their two losses coming by one point.

Dallas Egbert led the Tornadoes with 17 points, including two 3-pointers.

Turner is currently 1-14 in play this season. KG 84, Turner 33

The KG KouGars continued their dominant play with a win on Saturday.

Jared Miller scored a season-high 27 points and popped three 3-pointers.

Joey Stuart added 18, including 2 treys in the win.

Andrew Jones tallied 10 points for Turner.

The Tornadoes will meet the Havre sophomores at Turner on Thursday.

KG 69, Chester 56

The KouGars opened play on Friday with a win over the District 10C Chester Coyotes in non-conference play on Friday.

The game was a rematch of last year's State Class C championship matchup.

Stuart scored 21 points to lead KG, and had three treys.

T.J. Ironbear added 18 points, and Miller chipped in 14 in the win.

When the two met earlier this season, KG came away with a one-point 46-45 win.

The KouGars are 8-0 in conference play and 13-1 overall.

Jeff Graham led Chester with 18 points, including two 3-pointers.

It was Graham's lowest scoring output since Jan. 7, the last time KG and Chester played. He was held to a season-low 17 points in that game.

Brian Schlepp and Brent Clark added 12 points apiece in the loss.

Blue Sky 66, Chester 56

The District 9C Blue Sky Eagles handed the Coyotes a non-conference loss on Saturday.

David Jurenka scored a season-high 25 points, including two 3-pointers in the win.

Tyler Hutchinson chipped in 14 points for Blue Sky, who is 5-3 in conference play and 10-5 overall.

Graham poured in eight 3-pointers and 34 points for Chester.

The Coyotes have dropped the last three games, and are 7-2 in conference play and 8-6 overall.

Blue Sky 62, Box Elder 59

The Eagles swept the Bears in conference play this season with a win at Box Elder on Friday.

Hutchinson scored a game-high 25 points for Blue Sky.

Jurenka added 13 points and Brandon Anderson chipped in 12 in the win.

The Eagles have won the last six of eight games. The two losses have come by a combined four points. Rocky Boy won a 65-63 decision on Jan. 14, and KG won a 56-54 game on Jan. 21. Since that loss the Eagles have won four straight.

It was Box Elder's only game of the weekend. They will face Hays on Saturday.

Box Elder is 3-6 and 4-9 overall.

J-I 61, Brady 47

After forfeiting two games last weekend, the J-I Rams rebounded with a District 10C conference win on Friday.

Jeremiah Johnson scored a season-high 20 points in the win.

Ivan VanDessel chipped in 14 and Dustin Evans added 10 for J-I.

Valier 72, J-I 71

The Valier Panthers edged J-I in District 10C action on Saturday.

Brent Spicher nailed three 3-pointers and tallied 13 points in the win.

Evans also added 13 points and VanDessel chipped in 12 in the loss.

The Rams won an 83-68 decision the first time the two teams met this season.

J-I is 6-4 in conference play and 8-6 overall.
