The journey of the Havre Area Chamber of Commerce does not have an end or a destination . . . but focuses on continuous improvement of support to the membership, improvement to the community, and the strengthening of our organization and town.
The Athletic Committee will be hosting two athletic events in the upcoming weeks. The first will be the Boy's 9-C Basketball Tournament at Havre High School, February 23rd-26th, and the Girl's State "A" Volleyball Tournament at Havre High School, March 9th-11th. Each of these activities create revenue for the community.
Something I have been working on for a long time will finally become a reality. A Youth Leadership Program for High School Juniors was unanimously approved by the School Board of Trustees this month. The program is a wonderful partnership between the Chamber and Havre High School. I am very excited about the program. The program will give our youth the opportunity to learn first hand about the importance of investment in their community and to develop an appreciation for the diversity in their community. It will also give them an opportunity to learn about the issues and concerns facing their community and how they can make a difference now and throughout their life.
The Ambassadors have been busy with ribbon cuttings and Chamber Membership presentations. They will do the ribbon cutting at the Havre Job Service at Noon on February 22nd.
As I write this article, we are getting a blanket of snow on our community, but plans are still being made for the spring ADOPT Havre.
The spring clean-up will take place Saturday, April 15th.
This spring fever continues with the Havre Business Association's planning of the Home & Garden Show set for Saturday, April 29th. This event, a city-wide business community activity, gives the business community an opportunity to showcase merchandise and services related to the home and garden and summer recreation.
The Tourism Committee is working on the final phase of a long-range goal of placing "Welcome to Havre" billboards at all highway entrances to Havre. The final billboard is to be placed on the Great Falls highway and is a cooperative effort with MSU-Northern.
The Business Development Committee has a two-fold project in process. The first is a printed community profile with data, facts, and stats about Havre. The other is a CD-ROM containing information about our community for businesses or individuals interested in relocating to Havre. The CD-ROM project is another cooperative project with MSU-Northern.
The Board is working on their annual membership blitz. The date for this activity is Tuesday, March 21st. Board members will divide into teams of two, and visit both current members and prospective members.
The February feature for Havre . . . it's the People, is our youth. The Havre Public Schools have also planned some extra activities to run in conjunction with the feature.
We all take pride in our community . . . Our "space" is a special place. We encourage all community members to be an active member in their town.
