"Carroll has had our number," Lights head coach Tim Walker said.
The Lights are home on Saturday night as they host the Saints of Carroll College.
When the two teams played at Helena last month the Saints picked up the 87-85 win over the Lights.
In the first half of that game, the Lights dug themselves into a hole and trailed 42-29 at the half, something Walker said they cannot do this time.
Walker said Carroll poses some problems for the Lights. The Saints have good outside shooters and boast J.D. Solomon on the inside.
"It's hard to take away everything they do well," Walker said.
Walker said they will be forced early in the game to decide whether to guard the outside shooters or the inside.
The Lights are coming off what Walker called a "great win" on Monday night over Montana Tech.
Northern was able to make some adjustments toward the end of the first half and at the start of the second half that gave them the win.
The Lights are an up-tempo team and, Walker said, they will need to keep the tempo up against Carroll and get some transition baskets if they want to be successful.
"It's going to be a big game for us," Walker said.
The Lights are still battling for second place in the conference and a high seeding in the tournament.
Walker said even though they have lost twice to Carroll this season, he knows they have the talent to beat them.
The Lights need to prove to themselves they can beat the Saints, Walker said.
