MSU-Northern Skylights look to jump into the No. 2 spot in the Frontier Conference

By Rob Everingham

"The great thing is that we have put ourselves in a position to play for second place," Skylights head coach Ray Peters said.

It will probably be one of, if not, the biggest game the Skylights have played all season, as they head to Dillon this weekend for a clash with Western Montana College.

The Bulldogs are currently in second place with a record of 7-3, while the Skylights are at 6-4. If the Skylights win the game, they will get the second seed because they have downed Western three times already this season.

Peters said they have gotten into this position by executing their game plan and with people coming off the bench and giving them a lift.

It will be good to play this type of a big pressure game so close to tournament-time, Peters said.

Peters said Western is a very good team, with balanced scoring, and they are able to hurt you from both the outside and the inside.

The main thing the Skylights will have to do is guard the perimeter. Peters said they need to cut down on the Bulldogs ability to shot the 3-pointer or beat them off the dribble.

"It will come down to whomever shoots the ball better, makes the hustle plays and the least number of turnovers," Peters said.

Peters said Western is a very deep team with some great bench play. Peters credited the fact that his bench has been able to step in and produce this season.

The Bulldogs are in a must-win game. The Skylights really have nothing to lose but everything to gain, while Western is in jeopardy of losing the No. 2 spot going into the Frontier Conference Tournament.

"I'm very pleased with how they (Skylights) have continued to be persistent in their goals," Peters said. "It's been a great year and rewarding to see them grow."

Peters said the Skylights have played the toughest schedule all season. He said that the schedule has made them a better team.

"We expect to be in a big game at the end of the season, and with our preseason schedule, they have done a fantastic job of staying together," Peters said.

The Skylights' final regular season game will be Saturday against Westminster. The game will be played at Havre.
