The Havre City Council Tuesday received three bids for new garbage trucks.
One proposal was to purchase a new truck or the possibility of making a trade-in with one of Havre's older garbage trucks.
A second proposal was for two new trucks with a trade-in on two of the city's trucks.
The bids came from three companies.
The first bid was from Kois Brothers of Great Falls, with a 10-percent bid bond enclosed.
The bid price was about $147,000 for a new truck and with a trade-in $139,000.
The city's proposal, with Kois Brothers, for the purchase of two new trucks with the trade-in price for two trucks was $139,007 for a 1989 truck and $125,071 for a 1994 model.
A second bid from a Spokane company, Solid Waste Systems, was heard.
The company did not offer a bid bond for the trucks, but its bid will remain on the list.
The final bid was from Dan Hill and Associates from Norman, Okla.
They offered a cashiers check for the bid bond.
Their offer was $143,962 and $128,062 with a trade-in.
The price of two complete units is $287,924 with a trade-in of $15,000 for each unit.
The council motioned to pass this issue on to the finance committee.
The council also approved:
A lease request from Richard LaSalle for property adjoining city property was reviewed. The request was for a 10-year improvement lease.
LaSalle requested a decision on this lease that night. It was decided to approve this lease but it is subject to approval by the city attorney.
Renewal of gas and oil leases for another five years with Ocean Energy;
The approval of promotion for the following firefighters: Captain Joe Parenteau, he has completed his six months of probation; Tim Ranes has also completed his six month probation; Joe Lamphier be confirmed as a firefighter for the Havre Fire and Ambulance Department;
A labor relations contract with Public Works personnel and shop personnel for a 4-percent raise starting Jan. 1 and in June a 2-percent raise. The Jan. 1 raise will be retroactive.
The council also motioned to make changes in the investment policy,
To place the water main under Second Street rather than First Street and to accept the south end water project and the use of $241,000 for the West Second Street. Second Street has a lower volume of traffic, better soil conditions, a lower water table and makes a more suitable site for the new water main.
