Havre Blue Pony head football coach Dan Olson has resigned from Havre High and accepted a head coaching position at Bonneville High School in Idaho Falls, Idaho, Olson announced Wednesday.
"It was a great opportunity for myself and my family, so I had to take advantage of it," Olson said.
Olson finished his second season as the head coach at Havre. He led the Ponies to a league championship in 1998 and earned the Central A coach of the year in the process. The Blue Ponies tied for second in 1999.
He posted a 13-5 record overall.
"It was the assistants and the kids that made this possible," Olson said. "We had some great assistant coaches on staff. I owe everything to the players we had here at Havre."
Olson announced the leave to his players on Monday.
"The kids at Havre were great and it will make it very difficult to leave," Olson said.
Olson will be at Idaho Falls by June 1 to begin his summer program. He will also be teaching at the high school, an A-1 school, the highest classification in Idaho which is more than twice the size of Havre High.
"It will be a big challenge," Olson said about his new job. "The program has fallen on hard times the last couple of years and they are looking for someone to come in and get some excitement back into the program."
