The Chinook Sugarbeeters captured their second-straight District 2B volleyball title with a 15-4, 17-15, 15-5, victory over the Malta Mustangs Saturday at Wolf Point.
"We played very well," Chinook head coach Paula Molyneaux said. "It was definitely our goal to be in that spot. We were really excited to bring home that trophy."
Amanda Schoen led the Sugarbeeters with 10 kills and two blocks. Caroline Moores had 22 of the teams 84 digs in the win.
Defensive hustle and attacks made across the floor were big keys to Chinook's success, Molyneaux said.
"We had some amazing saves and we had some great defensive play," Molyneaux said.
Chinook defeated Malta 15-12, 10-15, 9-15, 15-11, 15-13 during semifinal action on Friday.
Schoen and Moores combined for 20 kills to lead the Sugarbeeters' attack. Renda Birky and Lindsey Erskine had two blocks apiece on the net.
Kelsie Whitney tallied 18 assists and Moores also led the team with 24 digs.
"The kids played with a lot of heart," Molyneaux said. "The games were huge emotional battles and the kids hung in there and they kept their composure."
