The Hill County Park Board met on March 7, 2000 and in addition to hearing a fence proposal for Beaver Creek Park from Kent Gilge and Mel Gomke, other matters took up board time at their regular meeting.
The case of the cabin that has been repossessed and not repossessed at times since the first of the year came up against at this meeting. Board Chairman John Goebel announce that the Normandy Coulee cabin owner has stated that he had sold the cabin in question. He was told by Commissioner Kaercher that the buyer should attend the April Park Board meeting.
The public being able to haul dead wood off the park was also discussed.
"Hauling dead wood out of the park is illegal but maybe before fall we could figure out a fee to haul wood out of the park," said Goebel.
"I looked through the minutes and we have allowed that (cutting dead wood) before," said board member Dean Hanson. "They have to check with Bernie (Bernie Goalie, Park Superintendent), and none of the wood could be sold. It must all be for personal use."
Chairman Goebel reported that a cabin owner west of Dillon's Bottom had reported four wheelers riding up and down the hills and making lots of noise a couple of weekends ago.
"ATV's are allowed off the road only with adequate snow," said Goebel. "There is not hill climbing and from May 15 to September 15 there are not ATV's allowed at any time."
Those hill climbers were subsequently caught according to Board Secretary Donna Goalie.
The Fresno Chapter of Walleye International had been requesting a detailed summary of help the board would like around Beaver Creek Reservoir. Board member Kathy Eskestrand built a map of campgrounds, fire pits, toilets and the like as a beginning for Walleye International help.
Chariman Goebel reported seeing mountain lion tracks while cross country skiing in the Blackie Coulee and south of reservation fence area. While driving into his cabin at Alkali Springs a big animal with a bushy tail ran across the road in front of his vehicle.
Park Board members expressed hope in finding another group to take over picking up trash along the highway at least three times a year in the first mile of the park from the north entrance. Board member Eskestrand mentioned that a group was needed to pick up trash around Beaver Creek Reservoir as well.
The next regular Hill County Park Board meeting will be held at the detention center court room at 7 p.m. on April 3.
