One of the most important of Bear Paw roads leading from Beaver Creek is Sucker Creek road. This road starts just north of Kiwanis Camp and winds south east of two gentle divides until meeting the Clear Creek road south of Chinook.
While the divides might be gentle, watch out for winter. Winter winds and even moderate accumulations of snow can close that road in a hurry. Many is the person out for a drive who got caught in a snowdrift that was not there a few hours ago.
Three seasons of the year this road not only is one of the most scenic of Bear Paw roads, but since Hill County has recently reworked part of the road and regravelled all of it, travelers do not have to worry about getting stuck. This time of year it is a great road to view the first blue birds in the area and at times even larger wildlife like mountain lions can be seen along the road.
Particularly since the recent work done on the road it is hard to imagine what a horrible road it use to be. Not a generation ago it was a road filled with gates and impassable conditions got so bad on that road that a petition was sent to the Hill County Commissioners concerning the road.
"We that undersigned, residents and taxpayers of Hill County, Montana, respectfully petition your honorable board that the Shambo road in Hill County extending from the Shambo post office east of the Blaine County line be improved. This road has been established for more than fifty years. The people who lived along and near the road at the time it was established, or their descendants, still live there, and are good taxpayers. This road is impassable about half of the time, is blocked now, and has been blocked since the 16th day of January, 1948, making it necessary for vehicles to cut through Paul Faber's alfalfa field for about one mile.
