Edward J. Cook, 89, a former educator and farmer, died March 17, 2000 at a Havre hospital of natural causes
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Van Orsdel United Methodist Church, Pastor Kathy Young officiating. Burial to follow at the Highland Cemetery.
Cook was born Dec. 5, 1910 to Carl and Lena (Brandel) Cook in Great Falls. He lived with his family in Highwood, Belt and Laredo. He attended schools in Belt, the Sunrise County School, and graduated from Havre High School in 1928.
Cook was among the first to attend classes at Northern Montana College. While attending college, he also taught at country schools.
On Aug. 7, 1945, Cook married Agnes Marie Tow in Laredo.
Cook taught in Havre at McKinley School, Devlin School and was principal of the Robins Sixth-Grade School for approximately one year. He completed his teaching career at Devlin School and retired in 1973.
Cook was a member of the Elks Club and was on its scholarship committee for many years. He was former president and an active member of the Retired Teachers and School Personnel Association. He was interested in the history of Laredo and in Elderhostel. He was a member of Van Orsdel United Methodist Church.
Cook was preceded in death by his parents, one half-sister, and one half-brother.
He is survived by his wife, Agnes, of Havre; daughters, Margaret Berg and Bonnie Parenteau, both of Havre; sons Robert, James and David, all of Havre; eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Memorials may be made to Van Orsdel United Methodist Church of the Bullhook Bottoms Barbershop Chorus.
Services and arrangements are under the direction of the Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.
